The success of Diplomas will depend on partners working together at a national, regional and local level to deliver high-quality programmes with employers at their heart.
Employers will have a vital role in bringing SHD to life, through placements and experience. There are many ways employers can get involved, and there are good reasons for doing so.
It makes good business sense
SHD will raise the profile of your sector locally, helping young people to consider routes into occupations that they might not otherwise have thought of.
Context placements will bring young and fresh minds into your organisation. Having feedback from young learners might make you look afresh at the way your organisation operates. Getting involved in SHD is one way employers and individuals are able to give something back to the sector they enjoy working in. It's also your opportunity to help build and mould the future workforce.
Offering support to local schools and colleges to deliver SHD can also be a way of meeting your organisation's corporate and social responsibilities, whilst at the same time attracting a diverse workforce.
What do you mean by employer involvement?
It can mean anything from getting speakers from your sector to offer talks in schools, to work-shadowing opportunities for teachers, providing student placements or volunteering.
You might be able to provide real scenarios or case studies for suggested work areas. Or perhaps you could offer resources to support work around context placements via career ambassadors.
